Jan Verhoeff reveals…

By Jan Verhoeff

Betty Butler, I was just rereading your post and thinking about the number of times O compared me to you. I don’t think I ever felt like he despised me, and definitely not you. I couldn’t see what you and I had in common for the longest time, then one day he spilled it. I was riding home from a writer event with him and we stopped for ice cream… He started out by teasing me that I needed a man like yours “who’d put up with my non-sense” and then he started talking about you. He said he’d known since you were about sixteen that you were absolutely brilliant. Talented in ways most dream of, but could never achieve, and that you’d have to find a man that was really amazing, to keep up with you. I may never forget, he said, “I felt like I had to run off the losers until one came along that was worthy of such an amazing young woman, and she probably thought I was never going to let one stick around.” I think he truly thought Frank was the right man to admire and encourage, inspire and motivate you. And he must have been right, because you have certainly proven to be “Brilliant” as O called you. I don’t mind being compared to such an amazing woman.

Jan, you just ruined my reputation. Really, I’m shy, calm, unassuming, bashful, easily misunderstood, uneasy around crowds, soft spoken. It has been fun watching Betty over the years and have her call me friend. She has been a great help. When things around her settle down I will respond to Fitz’s post I also have your addresses etc. LOL. Patsy is having a rough time right now.

I mean when things settle around here! My typo and poor spelling!
